Five Ways to De-Stress After a Tough Week
It’s Friday night at 5 p.m. and you’ve just left the office after a particularly rough week, professionally and personally. While it’s tempting to go home and crack open a bottle of wine, consider these five other options for de-stressing after a long week.
Take a hot bath.
Turn off your phone, put on some soft music, light a bunch of candles, and de-stress in a warm bath. You get bonus points for having a bath bomb. A hot bath can do wonders for your mind — the hot water will wash away all the toxins and help you feel like you’re making a fresh start.
Take yourself on a date.
It might feel like being out in public is the last thing you want to do, but taking yourself out for a nice dinner (which doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive) can go a long way toward starting the weekend off on the right foot. Not only that, there’s something empowering about eating in a restaurant alone. If you feel self-conscious about it, take along a good book or a magazine to read while you eat.
Buy yourself some flowers or a new plant.
Flowers will add immediate cheer to your home for a minimal cost, as will a plant. Plus, plants make the air in your home more breathable and healthy. If you want something longer lasting, there are also scented candles that will last for months on end and add some ambiance to your home.
Call up a friend.
See if they’d like to go for a walk in a pretty spot in your town. Oftentimes, being able to vent in a safe space can help you feel better. Walking is also great for your mental health and keeping the rough times at bay. Load up your phone with your favorite music or download your favorite podcast and head out. You’ll feel both physically and mentally better after your walk.
Treat yourself to a movie or a new book.
Head to the fancy new theater with the reclining seats to see a film in the genre of your choice or head to your favorite bookstore and spend a couple of hours browsing the new releases. 2018 is proving to be an excellent year for both film and books, so you’re bound to find something that appeals to you. Going to a movie or picking out a new book or two can be a relatively inexpensive venture and will provide the distraction and stimulation your mind is looking for.
Whatever you decide to do, be sure it’s something that will make you happy.
